I started sewing and making personalized gifts shortly after the birth of my second son. It started because I couldn't find a bunting set that was affordable for his crib. So, I bought a sewing machine and some materials and made one. I was giddy at how well it turned out and I was happy to share with anyone who came to my home, that I made it myself!
Sometime later, as a reservist in the U.S. Army, I gained the only nickname I ever had - "Sweetpolly." They told me it was because I was always bringing sweets to drill and I reminded them of Sweetpolly Purebred of the Underdog cartoon (yeah I know, I'm showing my age).
Fast forward and I am now a single mother with three young children. I was working at the N.C. Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer and was also a reservist. But, it still wasn't enough to support my little family. I needed a little extra money. This is when I put my sewing machine to work and started sewing and selling baby quilts under the name Sweetpolly's Creations.
I loved being able to offer blanket personalization to new parents. It was one less thing they had to worry about. I did this for many years and even sold baby blankets at the local flea market.
In between then and now, my children grew up and I became a grandmother. I changed careers and spent a little over twenty years working in the Federal Government. I also went to night school and graduated from Johns Hopkins University. Oh yeah, I got married too.
Currently, I reside in Maryland where I run my online gift shop "Sweetpolly's Creations." It's also where I live with my husband Clif, a couple of chickens, and our dogs Scottie and Hero.

For this gift shop owner and author, having a love for books started early. Her first job was working at the Highbridge Branch of the New York Public Library when she was just 15.
